Betsy is a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County and a member of Our Lady of the Wayside Parish. Betsy attended 12 years of Catholic school, beginning with 1st through 8th grade at Holy Angels Sacred Heart School (Class of 1984) and then completing her high school education at St. Mary’s Ryken High School (Class of 1988). While in high school, she participated year-round in the athletics program and was awarded the St. Mary’s Ryken Female Student Athlete Award for her graduating class.

After high school, Betsy attended Shepherd College (now Shepherd University) in West Virginia, playing softball at the collegiate level and earning WVIAC All-Conference awards her senior year. She majored in Public Recreation and Park Administration and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in 1993, after completing numerous internships in the State of California in the resort management industry.

Once back in the Southern Maryland area, Betsy was recruited to work with the sole court reporting firm, For The Record, Inc., in the tri-county area, performing contract management services and court reporting duties. For the past 23 years, she has managed various aspects of the company’s numerous state and federal contracts, including contracts with the Court of Federal Claims, the Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission and the Maryland State Office of Administrative Hearings. She holds certifications from the National Court Reporting Association as a Certified Manager of Reporting Services and the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers as a certified court reporter.

Betsy married her wonderful husband, Bob, in 1998, and is the proud mother of two great kids, Drew and Emily, currently enrolled in St. Mary’s Ryken High School and Mother Catherine Academy, respectively. She wants her children to have the same opportunities she had, growing up in a Catholic home and being fortunate enough to obtain 12 years of a Catholic education.

She has been involved in the Mother Catherine school community since 2005 when her son, Drew, started pre-K, acting as the former Mother Catherine Spalding School Home and School Association vice president and president for numerous years and as an assistant basketball coach for the girls varsity and junior varsity teams. She now serves as the Mother Catherine Academy Board of Trustees Secretary and the co-chairperson for the Fund-raising Committee.
